The goal is to make the National ID the country's primary, official proof of identity for opening accounts and completing identity checks, while strengthening anti-fraud and anti-money laundering safeguards. Rollout is phased. Digital banks, e-money issuers, and crypto platforms (VASPs) get 3 months to apply once the memorandum takes effect, other institutions get 6 months. Important: this won't replace other valid IDs entirely, alternative verification stays available when a National ID isn't presented or NIDAS is unavailable. 📌 Worth watching for us, ka-Miranda: stronger identity verification means safer accounts and harder-to-fake KYC, which is a good thing for reducing scams.
